South Main Pipe Organ

Many modern-day churches feature bands and praise teams during their worship times. While there is nothing wrong with these, there is something uniquely special about the sound of a large church pipe organ, especially when played by an accomplished organist. Some people would call this a traditional style of worship. Maybe I’m just getting old (hold the laughter please), but I think of its majestic sound as a fitting way of praising and worship the Lord. This the Sanctuary Pipe Organ at South Main Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. According to their website, this organ dates back to 1934 and will soon be going through a renovation or replacement.

Formula 1 Slideshow

This fall I attended my first Formula 1 event at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, TX. It is a first class track and if you ever have an opportunity to attend an event there, you will not be disappointed. It is a challenging sport to shoot, as the targets are moving extremely fast. It also requires longer telephoto lenses to bring the action in close, which only makes it harder to shoot.

This image behind the paddock between curves 18 and 19 is a good example of using a slightly slower shutter speed and panning with the car to create the blur that gives the sense of motion and speed. I hope you enjoy the slideshow below of more images from that day. Most of these images are not in my print gallery, so contact me if you have an interest in obtaining one.

Love, Peace and Joy

The Houston Zoo lights is a new tradition that many Houstonians enjoy every December. It is hard to believe just how many lights they string in the massive trees throughout the zoo.

Merry Christmas 2014

Lest we forget, Christmas is about one thing. Not shopping, not Santa, nor any other holiday tradition. Plain and simple, it’s about the birth of the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Merry Christmas from my family and I to you and yours. May you have a blessed Christmas!

This ornament is from our Christmas tree, taken with a macro lens. I’ve been enjoying macro work more recently and hope to do more in the coming year.

Red Eyes

I used to be up on auto trends, at least on the street scene. But that was a few years ago. Imagine my surprise when I first saw these headlights on several cars at a recent outdoor car show. I want them on my own car so bad now, but somehow it just won’t have the same effect as they do on this Challenger. I suppose I could buy a new Challenger, then buy the headlights for it. Yeah, that’s a plan.  Here is another example of a few cars with the same style headlights.

Foot Bridge to Downtown

There are a few places that are known for a great view of the City of Houston skyline. This footbridge over Buffalo Bayou is one of them. So that mean’s that this image is nothing extraordinary from the many previous photographers that have shot here. But now I can add it to my list of “been there, done that.” Does that make me a official now? Who knows…   Nevertheless, it’s a cool place to view the extraordinary skyline of downtown Houston.

Soft Circles

Flowers are both easy and hard at the same time to photograph. You can take your time composing your shot, since they hold pretty still but we see so many photographs of flowers, it takes something unique, unusual or beautiful to catch your attention. I actually enjoy taking photos of flowers and hope to do more in the future. But my garden just does not produce great subjects, so I have to find my subjects elsewhere. These soft circles were from a group of roses I brought home for my wife on our anniversary.
